Csaba Káel has been appointed the new CEO of the Hungarian National Film Fund.

The award-winning film director and former head of Müpa Budapest will replace the late Andy Vajna, who had been in the post from its founding in 2011 until his sudden death earlier this year.

Káel became a board member of the Béla Balázs Studio soon after his university graduation in 1989, after which he joined Hungarian Music Television as an executive producer. His first opera, a remake of Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte debuted in 1999, marking the beginning of a lucrative career as a director.

Káel will join the Hungarian National Film Fund during a busy period. The organization has cemented itself as a devoted supporter of emerging filmmakers, producing dozens of new films each year.
