Defense Minister meets with German counterpart in Berlin

Hungary’s network of military diplomacy is “our national treasure,” Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky said ahead of talks with German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht.

The defense minister flew to Berlin to meet with his German counterpart on Tuesday.

The Hungarian delegation was met with military tributes during a reception in Berlin, before proceeding to undergo talks about the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and how Hungary and Germany could further develop their defense cooperation.

In a statement posted on Facebook on Tuesday, Szalay-Bobrovniczky labeled Germany a “definitive ally” and “prominent strategic partner of Hungary.”

Commenting on the meeting, the defense minister said three main topics were discussed: “The war in Ukraine, the NATO summit in Madrid, and emphasis on the possibilities of developing bilateral relations between our countries.”

In particular, talks were held over the potential further cooperation in the “military, military equipment, and defense industries.”
