FM Szijjártó: Oil deliveries to Hungary may resume Friday after Ukrainian drone strike

Repairs in Russia underway as minister underscores link between energy security and national sovereignty

Oil deliveries to Hungary could resume as early as Friday following an interruption caused by a Ukrainian drone strike, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced Thursday on Facebook.

According to a ministry statement, Szijjártó held a telephone conversation with Russian Deputy Energy Minister Pavel Sorokin to assess the situation after Ukraine again targeted the oil supply route to Hungary. Sorokin informed him that repair work in Russia is ongoing and that there is a strong likelihood shipments will restart Friday.

“Alongside this, it must once again be made clear: our country’s energy security is a matter of sovereignty. Whoever attacks our energy security is, in fact, carrying out an attack against our sovereignty,” the minister stated.
