The Kecskemét Animation Film Festival and the 11th European Animation and TV Film Festival will begin on June 19th in Kecskemét.

To promote the burgeoning Hungarian film industry, 22 shorts and 28 animations will be screened, alongside television show pilots and movies directed by students. Five feature films, 28 television show pilots, six television movies and 12 animations will be shown in the European section.

The first to celebrate Hungarian animation films, the Kecskemét Animation Film Festival was founded 34 years ago, in 1985. Selecting the niche, lesser-known masterpieces produced in the course of the past year, the event will also feature the work of contemporary Japanese and African animation directors.

Guest speakers include Marcell Jankovics, the director of the new series chronicling the adventures of the folklore hero, Miklós Toldi and Gábor Csupó, the legendary producer of The Rugrats, The Wild Thornberrys and As Told By Ginger. The festival will also coincide with a group exhibition about the work of Ishu Pathel, László Csáki, István Horkay amongst others.
