FM: Ankara terrorist attack highlights importance of global efforts to combat terrorism

“We stand by our Turkish friends and will urge strengthening the EU’s cooperation with Turkey on combatting terrorism,” the foreign minister said.

Following a suicide bomb attack in the Turkish capital of Ankara on Sunday, Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said the terrorist attack is a stark reminder of the importance of global efforts that should be taken to combat terrorism. The global threat posed by terrorism has never been as serious as today, Minister Szijjártó said in a post on Facebook. He said the two main reasons were a fast spread of extremist, radical ideologies and a massive increase in migration. “The most effective way of thwarting terrorism would therefore be suppressing radical ideologies and stopping migration,” Minister Szijjártó said. “We stand by our Turkish friends and will urge strengthening the EU’s cooperation with Turkey on combatting terrorism,” the minister said.
