Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said Bulgaria will ensure the continued transit of natural gas to Hungary via Turk Stream which is particularly important since Hungary is receiving most of its gas supply via that pipeline.
Minister Szijjártó spoke with new colleague Georg Georgiev over the phone earlier in the day and they reaffirmed their commitment towards further developing bilateral ties, according to a ministry statement.
"My colleague thanked Hungary for supporting Bulgaria's accession with the [EU's] Schengen area. Hungary also supports Bulgaria's accession with the OECD. And we value highly the Bulgarian community living in our country," Minister Szijjártó said on Facebook.
He said they were in agreement on the need to continue the fight against illegal migration. They also agreed that an immediate peace in the region was in central Europe's interest.
Minister Szijjártó called it highly important that countries along the route of the Turk Stream gas pipeline continue to ensure the transit of deliveries.
"My new Bulgarian colleague assured me that the country will be a reliable partner in ensuring the transit of gas deliveries which I especially welcomed in light of recent physical, political and financial attacks carried out against the pipeline."
