Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said Hungarians have the right to view the family as comprising a father, mother and children; the mother being a woman and the father a man.
"No other country has a say in this," the foreign minister said, adding that Hungary's government did not meddle in the domestic affairs of other countries.
In a post on Facebook, the minister referred to "lies, slander and fake news" over the past days in connection with the weekend Pride march, saying that it was clear that "love is truly free in Hungary" as "everyone can be in love with whomever they want ... and live with whomever they want".
But protecting "our children" meant rejecting "aggressive LGBT propaganda, sexuality for its own sake and scandal", he said, adding that Hungarians had made their view clear in a referendum on the subject a few years ago.
He said numerous foreign players had tried to dictate the "norms and rules by which we live our lives here in Hungary".
The government, he said, did not meddle in the internal affairs of other states on this issue as "we think it is the business of the citizens of a given country to express their opinion on this issue". Accordingly, the governments of other countries should "leave Hungarians alone and let us live as we want," he added.
