FM Szijjártó: The last Hungarian hostage has been freed from Hamas captivity

After more than two years of hope and waiting, the long-awaited news has arrived: Miran Omri has been handed over by Hamas to the Red Cross — meaning the last Hungarian hostage has been freed from captivity, Foreign Minister Szijjártó Péter announced Monday on his Facebook page.

The foreign minister expressed deep gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump, who — “five years after the Abraham Accords” — has once again brokered an agreement offering “the hope of a peaceful, secure, and terrorism-free life for the peoples of the Middle East.”

Szijjártó also thanked Qatar and Egypt for their tireless mediation efforts that contributed to the release.

With Miran Omri’s return, all Hungarian citizens held by Hamas have now been freed, marking the end of a long and painful ordeal that began with the militant group’s attacks more than two years ago.
