The foreign minister has said the European Union would benefit from closer cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said in Minsk on Tuesday that Belarus currently holds the rotating presidency of the EAEU and is an important part of building economic relations.
“We consider the EU Eastern Partnership policy very important, and Belarus is an important part of it,” he said. “It is very important to build a partnership, and this is why we propose further easing sanctions against Minsk.”
According to MTI, Minister Szijjártó said raw materials in the EAEU area could play an important part in Europe’s economic development. Further, the most important energy transit routes cross Belarus.
“Belarus plays an important role in any future cooperation between the EU and the EAEU, which is why we are also developing our ties that help promote highly important European interests,” the minister said.
