The foreign minister has voiced his support for the Maldives to be granted visa-free status by the European Union.
During a meeting with his Maldivian counterpart Abdulla Shahid in New Delhi on Wednesday, Péter Szijjártó expressed Hungary’s satisfaction with the EU’s decision to lift the economic sanctions it had imposed on the island nation.
According to MTI, Hungary’s Eximbank has opened a 30 million euro credit line to promote Hungarian investments in water management, food safety and tourism in the country.
Minister Szijjártó also briefed his counterpart on the Hungarian government’s energy and climate protection strategy in light of the Maldives’ vulnerability to rising sea levels caused by climate change.
Hungary and the Maldives mark the 45th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations this year.
