Foreign Minister asks Bavarian interior minister to brief him on Euro 2020 flag incident

Minister Szijjártó said the Hungarian national team had been subjected to an “unprecedented insult” before the kick-off.

Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, has asked the Bavarian interior minister to brief him about what punishment was imposed on the person who invaded the field waving a large rainbow flag during the Hungarian anthem being played ahead of the Germany-Hungary Euro 2020 match on June 23.

In a letter addressed to Joachim Herrmann, Minister Szijjártó said the Hungarian national team had been subjected to an “unprecedented insult” before the kick-off. It is also difficult to understand why the incident came as a surprise to the organizers who were well aware of the “efforts to create artificial political tension” before the match, he said.
