State Secretary of Defense, Szilárd Németh said the Hungarian government and the ruling Fidesz-KDNP alliance will do its utmost to maintain the fence and military-police surveillance along the country’s southern border, and guarantee the continued operation of the transit zones.
Németh told public media at the transit zone in Röszke that the decision of the Luxembourg-based Court of Justice of the European Union is meant to force Hungary to demolish the border fence and the transit zone.
According to MTI, he added that since the great wave of migration in 2015, the border fence, the police and military patrols, and the transit zones have been serving the peace and security of Hungary and Europe together. Now the “people of [US financier George] Soros’s network” want to end this. This is in sharp contrast to the will of the Hungarian people and the Basic Law, the state secretary said.
Németh said this is now particularly dangerous in the context of the coronavirus situation. With the reopening of borders in Europe, migration pressures will increase again. The state secretary stressed the need to prevent migrants from coronavirus-infected places and hotspots from entering Europe.
