Hungarian actress Katalin Berek passed away at the age of 87 over the weekend, it has been announced.
Berek passed after suffering a long-term illness, and was surrounded by family and friends..
Born on October 7, 1930, Berek was raised in an orphanage in Makó and had her first roles as a child-actor in the Theater of Szeged, a city in southern Hungary.
Katalin Berek appeared in 21 films between 1950 and 1984, and starred in the 1975 film Adoption, which won the Golden Bear at the 25th Berlin International Film Festival.
The actress is a recipient of the state actors’ award, the Jászai Mari Prize and the Kazinczy Prize.
