The Hungarian government has chartered a private plane to evacuate six Hungarian and one Slovenian citizen from the hurricane hit island of Saint Martin, it has been revealed.
Péter Szijjártó, minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said that the party was successfully evacuated from the island on Tueday at 9pm Hungarian time.
The minister said the plane successfully landed in Curaçao at 11:45pm, and all of the airlifted Hungarians are safe and sound at the Hungarian consulate there. Hungary's consulate in Curaçao is also helping the stranded Hungarians to return home.
Minister Szijjártó pointed out that every Hungarian citizen who indicated a wish to leave the island had been successfully evacuated.
