Hungarian National Assembly ratifies Finland’s NATO accession

182 MPs voted in favor of the proposal and only 6 against.

The Hungarian parliament voted on the proposal required for the ratification of Finland’s NATO membership on Monday. With 182 votes in favor and 6 against, the ratification process can now be considered completed.

While Finland had maintained its historical neutrality, NATO membership had long been a topic of debate in the country since the end of the Cold War. With Russia’s attack on Ukraine last February, voices in favor of the accession have become stronger and led to Finland signing the NATO accession protocol on July 5, 2022.
