Hungarians are expected to spend tens of billions of forints on Easter this year.
According to a report by vg.hu, households are expected to spend over 10 billion HUF over the Easter period on ham and smoked meat products and purchase more than 900 tonnes of chocolate.
Martina Mostisch, secretary general of the Hungarian Meat Industry Federation, said more than 6,700 tonnes of ham and other boiled or smoked meats will be consumed over the Easter holiday.
The Association of Hungarian Confectionery Manufacturers (MÉSZ), revealed that 900 tonnes of chocolate was purchased by Hungarians last year, which was a 20 percent increase on 2016.
Chocolate rabbits, chocolate eggs, ducks, chicks and lambs were the big sellers. Easter sweets turnover also increased by 28 percent last year to 4.5 billion HUF. The numbers are set to be even bigger this year.
