Hungary pulled out amazing performances at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires to deliver their best medal performance to date.
During the international event, held between October 6th and 18th, the Hungarian team secured 12 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze medals.
The 2018 events was the first Youth Olympics ever to be held outside of Asia, and the October “summer” date can be explained away by the scorching heat in South America during that time of year.
206 nations took part in the competition, competing in 241 events in 32 categories. From Hungary, 79 sportsmen and sportswomen participated, competing in 20 categories.
According to Origo.hu, the Hungarian medals came from 9 categories, where the team excelled at athletics, wrestling, judo, kayak & canoeing, pentathlon, beach handball (women), gymnastics, swimming and fencing.
