Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said Hungary has offered disaster relief assistance to Georgia. In the past few days, “we have been faced with extreme weather conditions”, the foreign minister said, adding that the “storms, heavy rains and flash floods have serious consequences in more distant parts of Europe as well”. In Georgia, unusually heavy rains have led to a landslide in the northern part of the country, many people have died or gone missing, and the storm left behind huge damage, he said on Facebook. “I expressed my sympathy over the phone to my Georgian colleague and offered Hungarian disaster relief assistance if need be. Ilia Darchiashvili appreciated the offer and said they would contact us if their own resources are exhausted,” Minister Szijjártó said.
