Hungary produces world’s most expensive wine

A 35,000 euro bottle of 2008-vinatge Tokaji Essencia ranks among the world’s most expensive wines

A 35,000 euro bottle of 2008-vinatge Tokaji Essencia ranks among the world’s most expensive wines.

The Tokaji Essencia hails from one of the oldest and most legendary wine regions of Europe, from the foothills of northeastern Hungary, Tokaj.

The high price is due to both the cost of production and its rarity. To produce a single magnum of this sweet syrup requires more than 180 kg of grapes and an extremely long time for maturation. Each grape must be harvested by hand, placing Essencia among the most labor-intensive wines in the world.

Only 18 bottles have been produced in total, which could be a serious draw for dedicated wine collectors worldwide.
