Hungary has received its first shipment of Pfizer/BioNTech’s new coronavirus vaccine which targets the original virus and its BA.1 Omicron variant.
Ágnes Galgóczi, the head of the epidemiology department of the National Public Health Centre (NNK), said Hungary has taken delivery of 109,440 of the 9.5 million doses ordered as part of a European Union procurement. Hungary is set to receive 106,560 more doses of the vaccine next week and a further three million in October-November, she said, adding that a total of 6.5 million doses are expected to be delivered next year. The new vaccine will be available at vaccination points from next week, she added. The single-dose jab is to be administered as a booster for those over the age of 12, Galgóczi said.
