Hungary sends aid to flood-hit Spain

"We hope to contribute towards saving lives and mitigating the damage. Our Spanish friends can count on us," Tristan Azbej said.

The Hungarian government is sending 20,000 euros of emergency aid to the victims of flood-hit regions of Spain and will fund a Hungarian volunteer search and rescue team.

Tristan Azbej, the state secretary who heads the government's Hungary Helps program, said the government was "shaken" to learn of the disaster in Valencia, where flash floods have killed at least 200 and "the damage is very hard to estimate".

"We hope to contribute towards saving lives and mitigating the damage. Our Spanish friends can count on us," Azbej said.
