Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó has said that Hungary will not ban foundations run by billionaire George Soros.
As long as civilian organizations abide by the laws of Hungary, there is no reason to single them out, he said, in an interview with Magyar Hírlap.
Commenting on the apparently growing differences in opinion between Soros and the government, Szijjártó stressed that “in Hungary, Hungarian people decide on what political guidelines and values a government should follow when leading the country."
Commenting on Hungarian-U.S. relationships, Szijjártó once again noted that economic relations are excellent and the two countries cooperate well in the area of security policy.
However, the political cooperation of the two countries is “loaded with conflicting views," Minister Szijjártó said.
In response to former President Bill Clinton’s earlier speech, which contained criticisms of Hungary and Poland, Szijjártó said that sometimes “insults” materialize from the United States that are “impossible to explain” and are “unacceptable”. “This hurts,” Szijjártó added.
