Hungary's sports minister meets with French counterpart to discuss success of FINA World Championships

Hungary's sports minister has met with her French counterpart at the Duna Arena to discuss the success of the FINA World Championships for both nations.

Tünde Szabó, minister of State for Sports, held talks with French Sports Minister Laura Flessel, the first French minister to come to Hungary since 2010.

Minister Szabó congratulated the French Sports Minister on the excellent performance of French athletes at the 17th FINA World Aquatic Championships. They finished the tournament ranked fifth in terms of medals won.

Laura Flessel congratulated Hungary on the successful implementation of the World Championships, and expressed her appreciation for the Duna Arena.

During the the talks, Flessel expressed her interest in everyday physical education and Hungarian sports scholarship programs.

Minister Szabó said the Hungarian government looks upon sports as a priority strategic sector. Everyday physical education is therefore one of the foundation stones of its target system which serves to guarantee a minimum of forty-five minutes of physical education every day for elementary and secondary school students as part of the school curriculum. Higher education students also benefit from sports programs.

During the course of the meeting, the French Sports Minister urged the conclusion of a cooperation agreement between the two countries in the field of sports. Both parties acknowledged that the agreement will be drawn up soon.
