Hungary’s tourism industry is booming, new figures show.
According to KSH research, the number of tourists in Hungary grew by more than 5 percent in the first half of the year compared with the same period a year earlier, while accommodation revenues increased by more than 10 percent.
The Cabinet Office noted that the latest data shows domestic tourism is the driving force behind the growth and indicates that Hungarian families are doing better financially.
The Hungarian government is fully supporting Hungarian tourism with direct subsidies, infrastructure developments and information campaigns so that tourism can continue to grow apace, a statement read.
In 2010 the government spent 7.6 billion HUF (24m EUR) on tourism developments, this amount has increased to 53 billion HUF over recent years.
A statement read that tourism is not only about the economy but also a main pillar of patriotism, since it provides the opportunity to preserve the country’s cultural values and its natural heritage.
