Hungary’s tourism industry is booming, says HTA

Tourism grew in every region in Hungary through the first three months of the year as well as in every accommodation type

Hungary’s tourism industry is booming, according to the Hungarian Tourism Agency.

The agency’s CEO, Zoltán Guller described the expansion of tourism in March as “staggering”, and highlighted that there was a double-digit increase both in terms of domestic and foreign guest nights.

Guller added that tourism grew in every region in Hungary through the first three months of the year as well as in every accommodation type, while there was a marked growth in the domestic tourism activity of Hungarians.

He pointed out that one of Hungary’s main tourism partners, Germany saw a significant leap in guests from both sides of the coin, guests from Germany generated a double-digit increase in the first three months of 2018.

The considerable rise in domestic guest nights continued in Budapest and the Lake Balaton region, where the latter received 20 percent more guests, which helps to prove that Balaton is not just a seasonal vacation spot.

Guller also highlighted a more than 60 percent increase in the number of guests coming from Spain, which is far above the average of conventional sender countries.

He concluded that during the first three months of 2018, tourism generated a double-digit growth once again, “this increase will not stop,” he said.
