Laura Sárosi receives fair play award from Queen Sofia of Spain

Sarosi, who received the award for lending trainers to a rival, said it is "incredible" to receive a prize in another country for that act of sportsmanship

Queen Sofia of Spain has presented Hungarian badminton player Laura Sárosi with a fair play award during Spain’s National Sport Awards at El Pardo Palace in Madrid.

Sarosi, who received the award for lending trainers to a rival, said it is "incredible" to receive a prize in another country for that act of sportsmanship.

The Hungarian gave a pair of shoes to the German player Karin Schnaase, her opponent in the second round of the European badminton championship.

"I'm very happy for the prize, I think that because of the action I did, I do not think it was something big, but for the people I think it was great, I realized a year later, and to come here outside of my country and be with the royal family, explain what I did, was incredible,” she said after receiving her award.

The Hungarian player explained that she was talking to Queen Sofía who asked her to recount exactly what happened with the German player.

"I told her about it and she told me I should teach or do sports diplomacy or something," Sarosi revealed.
