The National Economy Ministry has confirmed that a mandatory 10 percent cap on supermarket profit margins on 30 basic food products took effect today, March 17.
The measure could bring prices of the products down by more than 10 percent.
The ministry warned that failure to comply with the new regulation would result in the application of the profit margin to all food products. As a last resort, the government could reintroduce regulated prices.
The ministry noted that food price inflation had exceeded 7 percent in February.
