Marriages are on the rise in Hungary

Katalin Novák has highlighted how marriage is once again being seen as a good thing.

Katalin Novák, State Secretary for family and youth affairs at the Ministry of Human Resources, has highlighted how marriage is once again being seen as a good thing.

During an interview in Saturday’s Magyar Nemzet newspaper, Novák said the latest Central Statistical Office data proves that there had never been as many marriages in Hungary as in the recent period.

The State Secretary said the government’s policies in support of families had probably acted as an incentive. “We have no doubt that the child to be born is the best investment,” she said.

KSH data shows that in July, the number of marriages was 31 percent higher than a year earlier, and in August more than 11,000 couples got married, the highest figure in the last 40 years. From Jan-Aug this year, 43,212 couples got married, 18 percent more than the number registered in the same period last year.
