The number of Ukrainian refugees arriving in Hungary increased to more than 12,000 in one day on Tuesday.
According to the national police headquarters, 5,482 people crossed into Hungary directly from Ukraine on Tuesday, while another 6,756 from Ukraine crossed from Romania. Police issued temporary residence permits valid for 30 days to 798 people. Holders of such permits must contact a local immigration office near their place of residence within 30 days to apply for permanent documents. Budapest police received 520 refugees, 171 children among them, by train. Refugees arriving on special train services at Kőbánya felső railway station, in eastern Budapest, were taken by bus to the BOK sports and events center serving as a humanitarian transit point.
