The oldest Hungarian has died at the age of 111.
Katalin Bélik, née Piláth, was born in 1907 during the Austro-Hungarian Empire and died on November 3rd, 2018.
According to hvg.hu, she lived in Piliscsaba and shared her birth year with several historical events including the construction of Budapest’s Music Academy and the completion of Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d’Avignon.
Bélik survived two world wars, the 1956 revolution, and lived through the reign of 53 prime ministers.
The locals called her Aunt Kati and she became extremely popular with the local community. She has three children, seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She recently revealed that the reason she’s lived for so long is because she “danced a lot and worked hard.”
Jeanne Calment of France was the oldest living person ever recorded when she died at 122 years, 164 days. At the age of 115 years, 306 days, Kane Tanaka from Japan is currently the world’s oldest living person.
