Patriots for Europe group leaders in the European Parliament highlighted the achievements of the Hungarian European Council presidency and called on the EU to pursue a stricter migration policy and increase the community's competitiveness.
"The failed policies of Brussels must be rectified," the statement, published on social media X, said.
The signatories welcomed the Hungarian presidency's steps taken in the interest of restoring the EU's economy, promoting innovation and making rules simpler. They made a special mention of Hungary's efforts to build a competitive and cost-effective agriculture, and made a commitment to save farmers from the harmful impacts of environmental regulations, from overregulation and from unfair competition. Farmers "deserve more", they said, and welcomed the EU's Common Agricultural Policy, adopted under Hungary's tenure.
In their statement, the party leaders called for more stringent border controls and the introduction of "zero tolerance" against illegal entry.
The signatories also voiced concern about recent charges of money laundering and corruption against Didier Reynders, former justice commissioner of the EU, saying that "the real rule of law problems lie in the EU institutions, in Brussels."
