Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has congratulated Sebastian Kurz on his election as the new Chairman of the Austrian People’s Party.
“I am grateful for the fact that in recent years, during your work as the Republic of Austria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hungary has always been able to count on your support and constructive approach in finding solutions to our common problems, at the same time building on the historical friendship between our nations and on our shared Christian values," PM Orbán wrote in a letter to Kurz.
"I look forward to cooperating with a renewed People’s Party and assure you that both I and my party, Fidesz, are ready to support the realization of your goals as your party’s chairman," the prime minister added.
Sebastian Kurz, who is just 30-years-old, was appointed leader of the ÖVP on Sunday after vowing to pull out of Austria’s coalition government.
