Prime Minister Viktor Orbán discussed the issues of energy security and migration with Mustafa Sentop, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, in Budapest on Thursday.
According to MTI, the EU sanctions approved in Brussels have not brought an end to the war in Ukraine but triggered an energy crisis which gave relevance to the high-level bilateral meeting. PM Orbán and Sentop underlined the importance of an immediate ceasefire and peace talks, he said.
The officials discussed the expansion of natural gas delivery capacity via the East-West transit route. PM Orbán said it was welcome that Turkey was now one of the main transit countries for natural gas via the TurkStream pipeline. PM Orbán and Sentop also discussed joint efforts to combat illegal migration. The prime minister said that without stability and security in Turkey, there was no stability and security in Europe. “Had Turkey not been making efforts to combat migration, the whole of Europe would be hit by an unprecedented wave of migrants,” PM Orbán said.
