Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has said that European leaders should listen to their people when dealing with issues that affect them, like immigration as a prime example.
European leaders are coming face-to-face with their people and pressure in the continent continues to grow, creating a need for leaders to revise their political practices, Orbán said today.
During his regular interview on Kossuth radio, Orbán said the reason for the increased pressure is not only the result of a possible Brexit, but also the manner in which Western governments handle the refugee crisis, acting against the will of European people.
The prime minister said he believes that if European leaders do not revise their political practices, “elected leaders could face conflict with the people, and this will not have a good outcome," Origo.hu quoted PM Orbán as saying.
In connection with the possible Brexit, the prime minister said for Hungarians it would be better if the United Kingdom stayed in the EU, but this decision must be made by the British people, and whatever their decision will be, it needs to be respected.
Orbán also said that the refugee camp in Bicske should and will be closed “but this cannot happen from one day to the next”.
He said that George Soros supports civic organizations that are trying to make the Hungarian government change its stance in strict legislation related to the refugee crisis, but “it would be a communist way of thinking for Soros to believe that those he helped with scholarships have also been bought," Origo.hu reported.
