PM Orbán orders investigation into Tisza Party data leak scandal

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has ordered an immediate investigation into what he described as a “serious data leak scandal” involving the Tisza Party, after personal data of around 200,000 Hungarian citizens allegedly ended up in Ukrainian hands.

“A serious scandal has shaken Hungarian public life. The personal data of 200,000 of our compatriots were published online without their consent,” PM Orbán said in a video posted to his Facebook page on Monday.

The prime minister stated that based on current information, “these data were collected by the Tisza Party.”

“I convened government officials responsible for national security, and based on the analysis of the database, we established that Ukrainian individuals were also involved in the data handling,” he explained.

According to PM Orbán, the fact that the personal data of Hungarian citizens have come into Ukrainian hands “represents a serious national security risk.”

He added that he had therefore ordered “the immediate and thorough investigation of all details of the case.”
