President Áder: Five new fisheries increase fish numbers in Lake Balaton

Following an ill-advised decision 20 years ago, the state again has a sufficient (lake) area to conclude serious disputes around a ban on Balaton fishing.

President János Áder has highlighted how traditional fish species of Lake Balaton could again become available in larger quantities thanks to Balaton Halgazdálkodási Nonprofit Zrt, which now has five fisheries of a combined area of 1,000 hectares.

In his Blue Planet podcast, President Áder said that “following an ill-advised decision 20 years ago, the state again has a sufficient (lake) area to conclude serious disputes around a ban on Balaton fishing”. He added that the fisheries could provide water quality similar to that of the Balaton, and raise such traditional fishes as carp, pike and catfish.
