President Katalin Novák met with Ilham Aliyev, her Azeri counterpart, in her office in Budapest on Monday.
According to MTI, the president said “excellent bilateral relations” with strategic partners are even more valuable during the economic and energy crisis caused by the Ukraine-Russia war. At the same time, Aliyev praised Hungary-Azerbaijan relations and expressed hope that energy cooperation between the two countries would become closer in future. He invited Novák to pay an official visit to Azerbaijan. In a joint statement made with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Aliyev said energy security was a global priority. Azerbaijan has enough resources to satisfy European demand reliably in the next 100 years, he said. The strong ties between Hungary and Azerbaijan have yielded advantages for both countries as well as the whole of Europe, making stronger ties all the more important, he said. Aliyev invited Orbán to an official visit to Azerbaijan. Orbán and Aliyev also signed agreements on cooperation on natural gas, agriculture, space research and on illegal migration.
