Róbert Zsigó, State Secretary at the Culture and Innovation Ministry, said a government-mandated cap on markups has reduced prices on a range of food products at big supermarket chains by 19.7pc, on average.
Zsigó told commercial broadcaster TV2 on Tuesday that the 10pc markup cap had reduced prices of 909 products since its rollout in March. He added that the prices of 271 products had fallen by at least 30pc- 40pc.
Zsigó said that 817 checks for compliance at shops had been conducted so far.
