State Secretary Zoltán Kovács has highlighted how Hungarian opposition MEPs have failed in their “shameful and hostile” attack to derail Olivér Várhelyi’s candidacy for the post of Hungary’s EU commissioner.
The state secretary for international communications and relations wrote on his Twitter account that Várhelyi had “triumphed” in his hearing, and as commissioner in charge of EU enlargement he would strengthen the bloc.
Kovács also said he hoped the new European Commission would stop illegal migration and would “consider protection of Christian culture and Europe itself as a top priority”.
