Following their meeting at the White House on Monday, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said he and US President Donald Trump strengthened their two countries’ strategic ties in a number of areas.
PM Orbán noted that he last visited the White House 18 years ago and felt the difference from that time. “There’s a different kind of leadership now with more ambitious policies,” the prime minister said.
The prime minister said the meeting had been important for Hungary because the two countries had strengthened their strategic economic, political and security relations. The two nations also strengthened their cooperation on the issue of migration and the aiding of persecuted Christians.
As we have also reported today, US President Donald Trump praised the efforts of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to preserve Hungary’s security.
The President called Hungary a “very good member of NATO” and hailed the government’s efforts against illegal immigration.
“People have a lot of respect for this prime minister,” President Trump said of PM Orbán. “I know he’s a tough man, but he’s a respected man.”
President Trump also praised PM Orbán’s handling of illegal migration.
“You look at some of the problems that they have in Europe that are tremendous because they have done it a different way than the prime minister,” President Trump said.
PM Orbán thanked President Trump for inviting him to the White House. He said the main goal of his visit was to strengthen the strategic alliance between the two countries.
