Minister Szijjártó said on Facebook that "it is good that the people who will lead the US within a few days will view our country as a friend and not as an enemy".
The United States’ move to sanction Prime Minister’s Cabinet Office chief Antal Rogán is "a petty act of revenge" by outgoing US Ambassador David Pressman and the Democratic administration, said Gergely Gulyás.
The prime minister said that "these days when two people, two men, sit down to talk either in Europe or America, they can certainly not avoid having a word about peace and about war".
Minister Szijjártó also said that currently there was an opportunity for better than-ever political relations to develop between Hungary and the US.
The foreign minister said Hungary was "rooting for Donald Trump's aim to conclude the war quickly to become reality", and said that keeping channels of communication open was extremely important.
Minister Szijjártó pledged the Hungarian government's support to Kellogg's work, adding that "we are ready for cooperation in every effort for peace."
Minister Szijjártó said Hungary-US ties had reached a "low point" in recent years.
The prime minister said Hungary and the US will need to sign an agreement to prevent double taxation, as the incumbent administration "has failed to renew the one that expired."
The prime minister said Hungary has a huge and unprecedented economic opportunity with America under Trump.
