Prime Minister Viktor Orbán received a telephone call from US President Donald Trump last week in relation to the new US ambassador to Hungary taking up his post in Budapest this Friday.
According to sources, President Trump said that the new ambassador, David B. Cornstein, is a fine man, whose arrival in Hungary will create the opportunity for further improvement in bilateral relations between the two nations.
The two leaders also spoke about the importance of border defense, and they had agreed that a country that is unable to defend its own borders can no longer remain a country at all.
The US president encouraged PM Orbán to strongly defend Hungary’s southern border. The prime minister reassured the president that Hungary is committed to continuing its current migration policy and will defend its borders.
Finally, PM Orbán stressed the importance for Hungary of the EU regaining its competitiveness, as almost 80 percent of Hungarian exports are to EU Member States.
