The MEPs signed a letter in support of Hungary and called on the European Commission “not to give in to blackmail and pressure by the European Parliament”.
Kinga Gál said that the government viewed Transylvanian Hungarians as a resource and a bridge, a pledge for good relations between Hungary and Romania.

Speaking to Hungarian journalists on Wednesday ahead of a plenary EP debate on illegal migration Gál said migration pressure was increasing on the borders.
Pressure posed by migration is increasing along the Western Balkan route with groups of young armed men attacking border guards.
Kinga Gál said in a statement that the EC “did not take the initiative seriously, even though it is risking its own credibility and the trust of citizens.”
Kinga Gál has been elected second Vice-president of the SEDE committee, Tamás Deutsch as fourth Vice-president of the CONT committee and István Újhelyi as third Vice-president of the TRANS committee.
