The president said the event running through Sunday at the Budapest expo grounds features several inventions of young people contributing to a sustainable future.
Climate protection and energy production go hand in hand, and by 2030 more than 90 percent of electricity generation in Hungary would be carbon-free.
President János Áder highlighted Hungary as one of ten European Union countries to have reduced carbon-dioxide emissions by over 30 percent since 1990.
Polish President Andrzej Duda said cooperation in regional partnership enabled the participants to successfully cope with current challenges.
The Planet Budapest sustainability expo is showcasing Hungarian companies offering competitive, world-class tech solutions in environmental protection and water management.
The president said the age-old motto of “think globally, act locally” is no longer enough. It should be changed to “act globally, act locally”.
The president said stalls will be made of reusable materials, rubbish will be collected by electric trucks, and plastic bottles will be banned from the expo.
President Áder said Hungary strives to become carbon neutral by 2050 as enshrined in Hungarian law.
President Áder noted that Budapest is organizing the Planet Budapest 2021 sustainability expo between November 29 and December 5.
