American actor Robert Downey Jr. has Hungarian roots.

A Hungarian organization looked at the actor's family tree and found that his ancestors were flour merchants from Tata.

The Hungarian Hollywood Council announced on social media that the actor's great-great-grandfather was a Hungarian called Jakab Stern.

Jakab Stern was born in 1820 and worked as a flour trader throughout his life around Tata, a Hungarian city. His wife was Eleonora Deutschländer, born in 1828 in the same village. They both now rest in the Jewish cemetery in Tata.

Robert Downey Jr. was born on April 4th, 1965 in Greenwich Village, New York, the son of the underground filmmaker Robert Downey Sr.
