Spring and autumn are the official hiking seasons, but even if it’s cold outside, the holiday season is an excellent time to get out and about and go for a nice walk with family and friends.
Here are some of the most beautiful places to see in Hungary this holiday season:
Visegrád: You can try the bobsled park all year around here with a breath-taking view of the mediaval citadel.
Magas-hegy: This peak is part of the Zemplén Mountains, a winter wonderland near Sátoraljaújhely. You can take a long walk or try downhill skiing and ice-skating.
Lake Velence: If the weather is cold enough the third biggest lake in Hungary will turn into a natural ice-skating rink in winter. Even if you don’t like winter sports, Lake Velence is a romantic destination well worth a visit.
Kékestető: The highest mountain in the Mátra region, very popular among tourists. The Kékestető TV tower offers a spectacular view of the winter scenery.
Lillafüred: A beautiful city in the Bükk mountains worth a visit at any time of year but during winter the caves and frozen waterfalls offer an unforgettable experience.
