The international interest in Debrecen has increased of late. Not only has there been development of the airport there to include new international destinations but funding has also been allocated to the city.

Hungary plans to use around 3.8 million euros in EU investment aid to modernize the infrastructure of Debrecen International Airport. The modernization of the airport consists of security and safety updates that will enable aircrafts to land in low visibility, an upgrade to the security fence, and an interconnector bridge between terminals.

Debrecen is the second largest city in Hungary, and its tourism sector has been increasing year-on-year. According to official figures, approximately 170,000 tourists visit the city each year who spend roughly 400,000 nights in Debrecen.

Most visitors come during the summer for the city’s most famous Flower Carnival in August, but other times of the year are now becoming more popular with Europeans and international tourists.

For Christmas, Debrecen has organized its very own Christmas Fair which includes the new Debrecen Eye tourist attraction.
