Defense minister says we must protect our borders to preserve Hungary for our children and grandchildren

"In order to preserve Hungary for our children and grandchildren, and to live here as Hungarians, we must protect our country’s borders and act against such dangers as mass illegal migration and terrorism,” Hungary's defense minister said

Defense Minister István Simicskó said that “nothing can replace the value of the homeland” during his speech at the oath-swearing of military officers.

Speaking at a celebration of Hungary’s St. Stephen’s day national holiday in Kossuth Square, the minister said Hungary has a future because of those who sacrifice their lives for their country.

“As long as there are Hungarian young people who choose military service, and, according to their oath, are even prepared to sacrifice their lives to defend the country, we have a national future," he said.

“The celebration of the foundation of the state is at the same time a celebration of our Christian faith,” Minister Simicskó added. “It is only the Christian faith that we have received from St. Stephen that can take us forward."

"In order to preserve Hungary for our children and grandchildren, and to live here as Hungarians, we must protect our country’s borders and act against such dangers as mass illegal migration and terrorism,” the minister concluded.
