Hungary has stepped in to help Ukraine by providing humanitarian aid and by hosting 700 children from eastern Ukraine at summer camps in central Hungary.
“Ukraine is welcoming Hungarian humanitarian aid, and this is also having a positive effect on Hungarian-Ukrainian relations," Miklós Soltész, the minister of State for Churches, Minorities and Civil Affairs, said.
What's more, Hungary will once again play host to approximately 700 children from eastern Ukraine this summer. The children will attend summer camps in central Hungary.
The children whose fathers were killed or injured in the ongoing conflict will spend a week in camps at Hungary’s Velencei Lake this summer.
The government thanked the joint efforts of Ukrainian charities and volunteers in helping Hungary host these children, whose time in the country will include day trips to Budapest.
An additional 20 Ukrainian soldiers will undergo rehabilitation in Hungarian hospitals with government support.
Miklós Soltész said that in recent years the Hungarian government has provided significant assistance to its north-easterly neighbor, and charity programs will be continuing this year.
Last year, Hungary dispatched 200 tons of humanitarian aid, including medical equipment, medicine and nonperishable food supplies to Ukraine.
