WHO Director meets PM Orbán and praises Hungarian pandemic response

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Hans Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe, discussed Hungary’s successful vaccination campaign, plans for the reopening as well as Hungary-WHO relations.

Hans Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe, has expressed his appreciation for Hungarian measures in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

During a meeting with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, both parties agreed that the economy and everyday life should return to normal gradually. The WHO director reiterated his view that schools should be closed last and opened first. PM Orbán also presented plans to reopen Hungary.

Kluge underlined that Hungary has had an exemplary vaccination campaign, adding that the vaccine should be seen as a life-saving tool and cannot be made a geopolitical issue. Both parties also emphasized that vaccination is the only means of overcoming the epidemic, and all vaccines are effective.
